State: QLD
Sport: Trail Running, Mountain biking,
Sporting Accomplishment: My biggest sporting accomplishment so far was training for and successfully completing an Ultra and an international mountain trail marathon 15months and 18 months after having my first baby!
How did you get into your sport: I have been mountain biking for approximately 12 years and started this as way of covering more ground than bushwalking. I then progressed to Adventure racing in 2005 which involved both mountain biking and trail running.
I have only been participating in trail running events since January 2015 as a way of getting back into fitness after having my first baby and made it a goal to complete an Ultra marathon
Hardest thing about your sport: having to explain to friends and family that I am not crazy and that running for several hours (or longer!) on the weekend is fun!
What does your regular training week consists of: when training for an event I run between 30-40km a week on the trails, usually over 2-3 different sessions, I swim about 2km once a week, cycle 1-3 times (on trails and on a stationary trainer) and a Pilates/ stretch session once a week.
How do you keep motivated: I want to set a good example for my children so that thought often gets me out the door! I also have lot of fantastic training buddies to meet up with and I just genuinely love being outside. Also, FOOD!
Goals (Future Plans and Career expectations): I would eventually like to run Ultra Trail Australia and also some stage mountain bike races such as Port to Port. My overall goals are to participate and contribute to off road sport in Australia and to encourage others to enjoy fit and healthy lifestyles.
Best piece of advice you have been given: Smile, thank the volunteers at events and don’t forget your hat!
