How did you get into the sport?
In my early athletic ventures, I competed in many triathlons and often finished on the podium, which fuelled my passion for endurance sports. As I evolved, I transitioned to trail and road running, where I truly discovered how far I can push my body. I’ve gone from 5km events to challenging myself with a 100-mile race up Mount Kosciuszko. Each achievement reflects my dedication and desire to constantly test my limits.
Hardest thing about your sport?
The hardest part of my sport is definitely the mental aspect. Staying focused and composed during high-pressure situations can be challenging. Additionally, balancing my training with work and personal life requires careful planning and discipline. It’s crucial to maintain a positive mindset and not let setbacks affect my performance while also ensuring I have time for other commitments and relaxation.
What does your regular training week consist of?
My regular training week typically includes 6-7 days of running, focusing on different aspects like skill drills, conditioning, and longer aerobic runs. With experience, I’ve learned to rest when it is truly required, as I’ve made the mistake of burnout & living up to the expectations of peers before. Lastly, I also incorporate strength training and recovery sessions to ensure I’m feeling strong & injury-free.
How do you keep motivated?
I keep motivated by setting both short-term and long-term goals, celebrating small victories, and surrounding myself with a supportive community, noting my local run club AM.PM Run Club. I also find inspiration in watching other athletes and learning from their journeys, of all shapes of fitness levels.
Goals (Future Plans and Career Expectations)
In the near future, I’m fiercely chasing a 2:39 marathon, and I’m excited about the opportunity to travel abroad and compete in an International Marathon Major. Ultimately, I aspire to turn my passion for running into a career, whether through coaching, sports management, or continuing to compete at higher levels. in gaining so many valuable learnings throughout my time I feel it gives such a great opportunity to relay this information & let others not make the same mistakes & therefore both thrive & love the sport they compete in.
Best Piece of Advice you have received?
The best advice I’ve received is to focus on the process, not just the outcome. This perspective is especially important considering all the external factors like work, family commitments, and life stresses that can take a toll on the body and mind. Embracing the journey and learning from each experience, while navigating these challenges, has helped me grow both as an athlete and as a person. It reminds me to appreciate every step, no matter how difficult.
